About Me
About Me
Hello, my name is Portia Gibson.
I am very proud to be a Registered Nurse and feel hugely fortunate to have a rewarding career that brings me tremendous satisfaction and happiness.
The need for safe, compassionate and effective patient care continues to be central to my practice. I am committed to prioritising your physical and mental wellbeing and will deliver a high quality, evidence-based service.
As a result of my clinical and teaching experience and passion for providing the best possible care, I have created “Post-Op Nurse”. This service truly gives patients the time, reassurance and support they need when they are at their most vulnerable.
Since qualifying as a Registered General Nurse in 1996 from Plymouth University, I have worked in numerous London NHS hospitals including St. Mary’s (Paddington), The Royal Brompton, Guy’s Hospital and King’s College Hospital. I also spent a year working in a Cardiothoracic unit at Capital and Coast Hospital, Wellington, New Zealand.
Twelve years ago my family and I moved to West Sussex and I joined Worthing Hospital’s Emergency Department as their Senior Practice Development Sister, teaching and supporting nurses, healthcare assistants and nursing students with their clinical and academic practice.
I am passionate about education so continued my post graduate studies, gaining a BSc in Acute Clinical Practice and an NMC Registered Practice Teacher qualification at MSc level. I now hold an Associate lecturer post on the undergraduate BSc Nursing Degree Programme at the University of Chichester and thoroughly enjoy supporting the education of our future nurses.
Some of the patient groups I have cared for include:
- Orthopaedic
- Cardiothoracic
- Colorectal
- High Dependency
- Cardiology
- General medicine
- Accident and Emergency
- General surgery
- Respiratory medicine
